SCROLL DOWN

Akwai for Education

For decades scientists and academics have been conducting research on how to improve the education system. Amazing insights were found year after year, but logistical inflexibility stalled the implementation of many proven solutions. The recent rise in access to computers and smart phones made it possible to minimize these barriers to implementation. For the last 4 years, the team at Akwai combed through over 500 scientific studies to painstakingly incorporate each into our software. The result is our website/mobile app that turns learning into actionable habits and gets parents more involved. Akwai has a marketplace with thousands of Action Plans for any goal students, parents and teachers may want to accomplish. You name it, we got it – parenting, class-management, growth mindset… we’ve even converted best-selling books into Action Plans. When an Action Plan is chosen, the app has an Artificially Intelligent Virtual Coach (AIVC) that will show the user exactly what to do to make progress toward the goal. It also measures attributes that are essential to success and pairs users with accountability partners on a weekly basis. Teachers can even create their own Action Plans for their school’s unique situation.

Productivity + Accountability

Following through on an intention has always been the cornerstone of global progress. The mission of Akwai is to understand the factors that relate to drive and execution. Through research, we create tools that will help people accomplish their aspirations.

parental engagement

Akwai works with schools who feel frustrated because their students don’t follow teachers’ recommendations and parents can’t or won't help. Our easy to use app has thousands of step by step Action Plans that guide students on learning through experience and accomplishing objectives. Our secret sauce is the innovative method we use to build deep accountability support systems around each individual student. Everyone wins when parents get hooked on using Akwai alongside their student.

Productivity

Backed by over five decades of research, Akwai has developed a mobile app that helps people break their goals down into actionable steps. Students track progress by answering specific questions in the following five areas:

To-Dos

Things needing to get accomplished on a one time basis.

Tasks

Behaviors they’re trying to accomplish on a daily or weekly basis that will help them reach their goals.

UnProductives

Habits they’re trying to avoid - usually things that will hinder their progress.

Ratings

Things they can rate themselves on – on a scale from 1 to 10. Basically, this is a self-evaluation.

Questions

Open-ended questions that they can ask themselves – and also answer on a weekly basis.

Fields and Templates

An individual To-Do, Task, UnProductive, Rating or Question is called a Field. A collection of Fields that have been grouped together to accomplish a specific goal is called a Template. Based on their grade level, students will have access to a library of Templates for goals like;

  • improving grades

  • becoming more confident

  • maintaining positive social relationships

  • finding a career path they can be passionate about

  • and many more...

The app encourages students to invite all their relatives and adult family friends to join Akwai and become part of their Supporter Network for periodic check-ins. To get adults more engaged, we also have Templates for goals like;

  • being more joyful and less stressed

  • improving health through proper eating

  • improving health through regular exercise

  • taking steps toward a raise, promotion or new career path

  • and many more...

Accountability

The app revolves around a three step process that happens once every week:

Step 1: Update App

Students will get an alarm notification to remind them to input answers for their To-Dos, Tasks, UnProductives, Ratings and Questions

Step 2: Send Joy

They will view someone else’s progress to say something positive or motivational. We call this process, “Sending Joy”

Step 3: Receive Joy

Someone else, will view their progress and do the same. This is called, “Receiving Joy”

This 3 step cycle will continue every week to allow the students to build solid habits and ultimately accomplish their aspirations.

Using the app takes less than five minutes per Week

  • Write a short update on your personal progress in relation to your goals.
  • Based on your personal experience, give the recipient some tips, strategies or advice.
  • Share a motivational or inspirational story that may be relevant to the goal they are pursuing.
  • Talk about something positive that happened to you as a result of you pursuing your own goals.
  • According to the recipients Goal Log, do you see any improvement? Explain why or why not.
  • Talk about how your month is going in general.

AIVC 3.0

Over the last four years, our team has utilized decades of research to develop a proprietary algorithm that converts 5 minutes of app usage into over 1,500 individual data points. This Artificially Intelligent Virtual Coach (AIVC 3.0) summarizes each student’s behaviors, attitudes and habit formation.

These evaluations are represented by the 8 Sub-Scores

The Perseverance Sub-Score (PV-SS)

- based around Tasks and what the user accomplished in relation to what they said they would get accomplished.

The Willpower Sub-Score (WP-SS)

- based around UnProductives and how well users avoided participating in activities they identified as being detrimental to their objectives.

The Introspection Sub-Score (IP-SS)

- based around Ratings and how well the user evaluated personal traits that have an impact on their advancement toward success.

The Transparency Sub-Score (TP-SS)

- based around Questions and the detail given in response to open ended questions that pertained to their progress.

The Accountability Sub-Score (AC-SS)

- based around the user holding themselves responsible for their progress as well as how well they held others accountable.

The Consistency Sub-Score (CS-SS)

- based around the user’s consistency, and how punctual they were when submitting status updates and progress reports.

The Utilization Sub-Score (UZ-SS)

- based around how much effort was put into using functions of the software that were developed to maximize productivity.

The Tenacity Sub-Score (TN-SS)

- based around the effort put into unique activities that increase their chances of accomplishing goals and objectives - activities like referring friends and reading our articles.

The 8 Sub-Scores average together to output a single 'Akwai Score'

Akwai Score: 0%

Akwai Score: 100%

Akwai Score: 195%

Printable Portfolios

Each Akwai user will also be able to generate a 20 page summary document called a “Portfolio”. These Portfolios are filled with colorful infographic-style charts and graphs that make it easy to visually see the student’s progress. AIVC 3.0 updates Portfolios every single week to give detailed reasoning for the Scores and Sub-Scores a student has received.

This will allow counselors and teachers to provide more personalized coaching. It gives them a deep understanding of the root causes behind the student’s outcomes. Portfolios can even be an invaluable asset when applying for college scholarships or preparing for a job interview.

Here is an example Portfolio:

what can big-data do for you

Superintendents and Principals will be able to compile the statistics from students’ individual Portfolios into a school-wide Data Dashboard. This will allow them to see how well the whole school is progressing and what areas might need the most attention. There are a lot of ways stats can be ranked so there are multiple leaderboards which allows students to compete and see who is the most productive.

For a student to be successful, they need to have structure outside the classroom. Homework, projects, studying, reviewing progress, getting enough sleep, eating right and exercising are all activities that have to be done at home. Parents will be able to manage home activities more effectively since the mobile app allows them to measure their student’s progress.

Students earn gift cards and prizes for getting the role-models in their lives to download the mobile app so that everyone will have access to their goals, action steps and progress. This includes siblings, grandparents, longtime family friends, people from church and maybe even the family dentist. Having an extended network of supporters helps the parent be held accountable to being involved in their student’s education.

Akwai's Five-Part Mission Statement

Part 6

Akwai's Five-Part Mission Statement

objectives

Supporter Networks

Get each student’s parents, relatives and approved family friends intimately engaged in their child’s development.

Accountability

Create a culture of accountability around each student. Establish periodic check-in systems where detailed progress updates will be distributed to classmates, teachers, counselors, principals, parents, relatives and family friends.

Motivation

Increase each student’s motivation. Through surveys of students, parents and principals we found that students lacked interest in school mainly because they could not visualize its relevance to their lives as adults. Akwai gives hands on experience in the necessary attributes for potential career paths.

Higher Education

Increase the student’s likelihood of receiving some sort of financial aid for postsecondary education. High school graduates with full (or even partial) financial aid are more likely to continue learning.

Metrics

Accumulate large amounts of meaningful data that will help us measure the impact of this initiative and display it in easy to understand formats.
