A Scorekeeper
A personal guide who helps you choose activities, stay accountable, and get the most out of the universe.
Akwai was created around a familiar problem: wanting to improve your life doesn’t always translate into doing it. Building a career, learning a skill, or helping your community takes effort, and the payoff can feel distant. Distractions offer enjoyment immediately. Companies have become highly skilled at capturing that attention through endless content, rewards, and experiences that keep people coming back. Akwai asks: what if that same care went into making personal progress compelling?
Over 12 years, Akwai has refined this idea into a system that connects goal setting, accountability, social interaction, competition, and storytelling. Its Playbook translates productive activities into specific actions called “Plays.” Those actions connect to team scores, weekly matchups, and an immersive sci-fi adventure, giving everyday accomplishments a place in a larger shared experience.
Participants choose goals and activities relevant to their lives, with a Scorekeeper helping them identify next steps and stay accountable. They meet people through live events, collaborate on projects, and contribute to their teams by completing productive activities. Their real-world progress earns points and can advance their adventure. The community gives them people to learn from, work alongside, and celebrate with.
The system is designed to make goals easier to act on: clear next steps reduce uncertainty, visible progress makes effort feel worthwhile, and teammates give people another reason to follow through. Competition and story add excitement, while recurring activities provide structure for continued participation.
Akwai’s purpose is to make the things that improve yourself, and the world, things you look forward to doing.
